These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Justice Lens, a service operated by Specta LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using Justice Lens ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Description of the Service
Justice Lens is a web-based platform that provides access to publicly available crime incident data from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of Washington, D.C., along with AI-assisted analysis and interactive mapping tools. The Service is intended for informational and research purposes only.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. By using Justice Lens, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
3. Account Registration
Certain features of the Service require account registration. You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration and to keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.
4. Subscriptions and Billing
Justice Lens offers a free tier, a one-time report purchase at $39, and paid subscriptions (Basic at $99/mo, Pro at $249/mo). Subscriptions begin immediately upon purchase and are charged automatically on a monthly or annual basis unless cancelled.
All payments are processed by Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorize Specta LLC to charge your payment method for the applicable subscription fees. Subscriptions auto-renew monthly and may be cancelled at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods.
We reserve the right to change pricing at any time. You will be notified of any price changes in advance and may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You may not:
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm any individual or group
- Use data from the Service to target, surveil, or discriminate against any person
- Use the Service or any Service output for tenant screening, housing eligibility, employment, credit, insurance, lending, or other decisions about an individual person's eligibility, access, pricing, or terms
- Use the Service as a consumer report or for any purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), fair housing laws, employment laws, credit laws, or insurance eligibility rules
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically download data from the Service without written permission
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure
- Use the Service in any manner that violates applicable local, state, federal, or international law
- Resell or sublicense access to the Service without prior written consent
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
6. Data Accuracy
Crime data displayed is sourced from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of Washington, D.C. via DC Open Data. This data is:
- Preliminary and subject to change pending investigation outcomes
- Not guaranteed to be complete, accurate, or current
- Not suitable as the sole basis for any legal, safety, business, or personal decision
Justice Lens makes no representations about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data presented through the Service.
7. AI-Generated Content
The AI chat feature uses large language models that may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading responses. AI-generated content does not constitute legal advice, law enforcement guidance, or factual reporting. Do not rely on AI-generated summaries as authoritative records.
Specta LLC makes no representation that any AI-generated analysis is complete, current, or applicable to your specific situation. Always verify findings independently before making any decisions.
8. No Affiliation
Justice Lens is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by the Metropolitan Police Department, the District of Columbia government, or any other government agency.
9. Intellectual Property
All content, design, code, trademarks, and materials comprising the Service (excluding publicly sourced government data) are the property of Specta LLC and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without express written permission.
10. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party providers including Anthropic (AI processing), Stripe (payments), Clerk (authentication), CARTO and OpenStreetMap (map tiles), and Nominatim (geocoding). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. Specta LLC is not responsible for the practices or content of any third-party service.
11. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or if your use of the Service poses a risk to other users or the platform. Upon termination, your right to access the Service will cease immediately. You may also terminate your account at any time through your account settings.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components. Your use of the Service is at your sole risk.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Specta LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service.
Specta LLC's total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of the use of Justice Lens shall not exceed the amount paid by you for the Service during the six (6) months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Specta LLC and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
15. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of Justice Lens shall be resolved exclusively through binding arbitration in Washington, DC, under the rules of the American Arbitration Association (AAA). The arbitration shall be conducted by a single arbitrator, and the decision shall be final and binding. You waive any right to a jury trial.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent irreparable harm.
16. Class Action Waiver
You waive any right to bring or participate in any class action, collective action, or representative proceeding against Specta LLC. All claims must be brought individually. This waiver applies regardless of the forum in which the claim is brought.
17. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
18. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining Terms remain in full force and effect.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
